The lingering effect of misinformation on reasoning after it has been corrected.

The continued influence effect occurs when a correction is remembered but the original false claim still shapes explanations and judgments. Effective correction clearly labels the error, supplies a coherent replacement account, and avoids unnecessary repetition of the misinformation.
