Testimonial overreach

Using a personal endorsement as if it established a general effect or causal claim.

Testimonial overreach mistakes an individual's report for controlled, representative evidence. A testimonial can describe one experience, but it usually cannot rule out coincidence, placebo effects, selection effects, or alternative causes.
