Deflecting criticism by pointing to another person's or group's alleged wrongdoing.
Whataboutism responds to one issue with “what about” a different issue, often to avoid judging the original conduct. The comparison can reveal inconsistent standards, but it does not resolve the first claim unless the two cases are directly relevant.
