Course description

A lesson can feel clear while you are reading it and still be difficult to explain tomorrow. Learning requires more than a pleasant feeling of familiarity. It involves changes that help you retrieve information, recognize when an idea applies, or perform a skill after the immediate support is gone. This course explains several ways to practice and the different problems they address. Retrieval helps you work with knowledge from memory. Spacing gives you opportunities to return after a delay. Mixed examples help you choose between methods. Explanation and feedback help you correct misunderstandings. You will also examine transfer: whether something learned in one setting is useful in a different setting. No single method solves every learning problem.
