Course description
Memory allows experience to guide what happens next. It includes remembering an event, knowing what a word means, holding an instruction in mind, and performing a skill. These abilities are related, but doing well at one does not guarantee the same performance at another. Begin with the difference between taking in information, keeping it over time, and retrieving it. Then examine working memory, long-term knowledge, and the way remembering reconstructs the past. The final units explain forgetting and remembering future intentions. The aim is to understand memory well enough to use appropriate supports, not to promise a perfect memory.
