Introduction

A photograph can be genuine while the claim beside it is wrong. An old image may be presented as current. A scene from one place may be attributed to another. A real person may be identified incorrectly.
This is why checking an image begins with the surrounding claim, not only with whether the pixels look natural.
Ask what the image is being used to establish. Then examine whether its date, location, source, and visible details support that particular story.
