Lily explores introduction in Reasoning from patterns and explanations.

Many useful arguments cannot guarantee their conclusions. We learn from observations, predict what may happen, and compare possible explanations for events.

Two important forms of this reasoning are induction and inference to the best explanation, sometimes called abduction. Both can provide good reasons while leaving room for revision.

Understanding their limits helps us avoid demanding impossible certainty or accepting a plausible story too quickly.
