A poll asks some people questions and uses their answers to describe a group. The group answering may be much smaller than the population the headline discusses.
To evaluate the result, you need to know who was included, how they were selected, what they were asked, and when they answered.
A large number of responses can be useful, but size alone does not make a poll representative. The method connects the responses to the population the report claims to describe.
