Introduction

Persuasion tries to influence what an audience believes or does. It appears in advertisements, public campaigns, reviews, fundraising appeals, and ordinary arguments.
A persuasive message can offer sound reasons. It can also direct attention toward favorable details and away from costs, alternatives, or uncertainty.
Understanding persuasion means examining the choice being presented and the way the message organizes it. The presence of persuasion does not settle whether the claims are true. It tells you to look closely at what the message asks you to consider.
