A response can sound forceful while leaving the original argument unanswered. It may replace the argument with an exaggerated version, introduce a distracting issue, or redirect criticism toward someone else.
The important question is whether the reply addresses what was actually claimed. This lesson explains straw man arguments, red herrings, and whataboutism, while distinguishing them from useful clarification and relevant comparisons.
