Course description

Misleading information takes several forms. Someone may pass on an honest mistake, repeat an unverified rumor, manipulate a true detail, or deliberately impersonate a trusted source. The response should fit the evidence and the possible consequences. This course distinguishes uncertain content from demonstrated falsehood and examines what can be known about intent. It then covers breaking news, conspiracy reasoning, fair treatment of disputed claims, and scams that create urgency or borrow another person's identity. The emphasis is on checking and responding, not on assigning motives to strangers.
